India began its quest for the
World Cup with a stunning win against Australia in their series opener.
Australia's decision to elect to bat after winning the toss proved wrong when
Indian bowlers started to trouble its batters. When David Warner and Steve
Smith started building a decent partnership, Indian spinners crushed them with
their spin magic. Indian bowlers did not leak many runs and restricted
Australia to end their innings at 199. If India manages to do the same against
Pakistan, Indian fans can expect the same result. Now that Pakistan batters are
strong in playing the spin well, India must devise other plans.
India boasts a formidable
batting order but needs to work on it. To face Shaheen Afridi in the first few
overs is a tough task. India did a fabulous job with the ball but did the
opposite with the bat. Australian bowlers picked the first three wickets within
two overs and took control of the game. This is when Virat Kohli and KL Rahul
used all their experience and built a solid partnership that guided the team to
a fantastic victory. Kolhi, the master in the chase, came in when the top order
collapsed but revived the batting along with Rahul. In the end, Hardik joined
the party and hit the winning runs.
Although India won the game, it
must work on providing a decent start. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas must work on
batting sensibly and avoid loose shots.
